Dallas Love Project

What is the Dallas LOVE Project?

There are defining moments in the life of a city. For Dallas, that moment came on November 22, 1963.
Now, it is time to create a redefining moment – The Dallas LOVE Project.

It began on September 21 – International Peace Day – and continuing through November 22 – the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Dallas will be transformed into one giant art gallery. Over 30,000 pieces of art. Over 30,000 unconditional acts of love, beauty, hope and inspiration.

Created by the people of Dallas, this remarkable project will redefine the city through a genuine outpouring of love – a true reflection of the character and courage of a remarkable city.

The Dallas LOVE Project – What the world needs now.

RORY MEYERS CHILDREN'S ADVENTURE GARDEN

Dallas Arboretum

Dallas, TX 75218

dallasarboretum.org‎

At this 8-acre garden, visitors can wander the treetops on a skywalk and explore a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids landscape of giant petals, stems and ants. Science lessons are revealed on an outdoor "video hedge." And not only is touching allowed, it's encouraged in a dedicated plant petting zoo.

"The new Dallas garden is a milestone," says Casey Sclar, executive director of the American Public Gardens Association. The site features 150 displays and activities, from an energy island where visitors can shoot a water cannon to generate electricity to CSI-like video games where kids follow clues to solve mysteries like who's killing black flies in a swamp. Spoiler alert: Plants can be carnivorous too.

Most significantly, the exhibits, which are grouped in 17 indoor and outdoor galleries, are based on national school science and math standards – the idea being that a garden field trip will reinforce class lessons and help raise test scores. "It will have immediate impact," Sclar says.

In addition to world-class shopping, NorthPark Center features a magnificent backdrop of art, architecture and landscaping for the enjoyment of its discerning customers. The center has won countless awards, including the American Institute of Architects' Best Design of the Decade, and features internationally-acclaimed 20th century artwork on display throughout the light-filled space and amid the 1.4-acre landscaped garden, CenterPark Garden.  It is no wonder that with works by Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Joel Shapiro, Jim Dine, Jonathan Borofsky, James Rosenquist, Antony Gormley, Barry Flanagan and Beverly Pepper, among others, acclaimed artist Mark di Suvero says NorthPark "is better in many ways than a lot of museums."  Di Suvero's own monumentally impressive 48-foot-tall, 12-ton Ad Astra, 2005, sits prominently in two stories of NorthPark Center's NorthCourt - the only indoor, public display of the artist's work in the world.
