DFW Celebrates New Year's Eve

How Will You Ring in 2014?

By , About.com Guide

Have you made plans yet for New Year's Eve? Here are some suggestions to help you ring in the New Year. Some celebrations are elegant sit-down dinners and some are on-your-feet-dancing parties. Some are some combination of the two. There are also a couple of non-traditional ways to celebrate with the entire family -- like driving through Prairie Lights on its closing night or Dallas Stars hockey game. Make plans now before the venues get too crowded.
Hmm. Ghost Bar closed about four months ago. Where are you going now to get your dance on?

1. Big D NYE at the AAC

The party's on at Victory Park! This year's celebration will be set up on multiple stages with food and beverage tents and an awesome fireworks display. This free celebration will include continuous entertainment, including the Stream Energy Fireworks Spectacular at midnight. They are finalizing the 2013 show rundown, entertainers and celebrity appearances.
Congratulations to the band, Breaking Southwest, for winning the Texas Motor Speedway Fast Track to Fame Big D NYE Competition.
WFAA-TV Channel 8 will provide live coverage of the event beginning at 10:30 p.m. including entertainment, special guests and the fireworks spectacular at midnight.
There will be multiple parking facilities located throughout the Victory Park area as well as adjacent lots within walking distance to Victory Plaza. DART is the recommended mode of transportation. Take the Green Line to Victory Station.

2. Blue Martini

There's no more Ghost Bar in Dallas so grab a cab/limo or get a room and party in Plano at Blue Martini. Great music, food and drinks. Live music all night, admission and table packages available. Trust me, go VIP.
Sip a Blue Martini at 7301 Lone Star Drive, Plano, TX 75024. 972-727-2583.

3. Central 214

Chef Graham Dodds is offering a scrumptious four-course prix fixe dinner for New Year’s Eve with a vast selection of entrees including: dijon crusted dorper lamb chops; crispy duck breast; franconia braised beef cheeks; striped bass paella; beef tenderloin; 1Ž2 lobster thermidor; and wild mushroom ragout. The dinner is priced at $70 per person and includes a glass of prosecco. Menu features may also be ordered a la carte. Specially selected wine, beer and cocktail pairings will be offered for an additional charge.
Reservations are available for December 31, 2012 from 5 pm – 11 pm, 214-443-9339.
Extend the evening with festive cocktails and bites at Central 214’s cozy bar lounge and courtyard patio while enjoying the flamenco guitarist and complimentary henna art, tarot card readings and a New Year’s bubbly toast at midnight. Take the elevator home with a discounted stay rate at Hotel Palomar Dallas.
Central 214: 5680 N. Central Expwy at Mockingbird Ln. Dallas, TX 75206

ATT&T Cotton Bowl Classic

The 77th AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic is scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2013, at 7 p.m. CST live on FOX

Governing Body
The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association (CBAA) is a nonprofit organization incorporated under the laws of the state of Texas to promote, sponsor and stage an annual postseason intercollegiate football game in Arlington.

Title Sponsor

AT&T Inc. became the official title sponsor of the game on September 18, 1996.

History

The first Classic was conceived by the late J. Curtis Sanford, a Dallas oilman and business executive. Sanford's first game promotion, a private enterprise guaranteeing each institution $10,000, matched TCU and Marquette on January 1, 1937, at Fair Park's Cotton Bowl Stadium before 17,000 fans. In 1941, the affiliation with the Southwest Conference began, with the SWC voting to send its champion annually to the Classic as the host institution. A partnership was formed in 1998 to create one of the top collegiate matchups in postseason play. Each year the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic will serve as the New Year's Day home for the Big 12 Conference and Southeastern Conference.

The $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium, located in Arlington, Texas, will house the Classic for the fourth time on January 4, 2013.

The Matchup

Each year, participants in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic will be chosen from the Big 12 Conference and the Southeastern Conference. The Big 12 provides the game's anchor institution. Once the selection process has been completed by the Bowl Championship Series, the Classic receives its choice of Big 12 members. The SEC will provide a division champion, a division runner-up, a team with a comparable record or a mutually agreed upon team as the Big 12's opponent.

Participating Teams' Revenue

The participating universities will receive a combined $7.25 million for participating in the 2013 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. Since 1937, the Classic has contributed more than $166 million to higher education.

The Teams

Oklahoma (10-2) vs. Texas A&M (10-2). Bob Stoops owned the Aggies when they were still in the Big 12, going 11-2, but that was before A&M unleashed Johnny Football. It's four-year starter Landry Jones against the likely freshman Heisman winner.

Ticket Information

Club seats for the Classic are $225, and reserved seats are $140. All persons, except those under 1 year of age, must have a ticket for admission to the stadium. Ticket information for the 2013 Classic may be obtained by going online to www.attcottonbowl.com, or by calling 817-892-BOWL or toll-free at 888-792-BOWL. Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted.

On the Web

For the most current information about the AT&T Cotton Bowl, become a regular visitor to the Classic's Internet home page at www.attcottonbowl.com. Capture the game's history, obtain ticket information and explore the many activities that revolve around the New Year's Day Classic.

Art Contest on Display

Throughout the holiday season, Cowboys Stadium will spotlight the artwork of the 15th annual AT&T Cotton Bowl Art Contest. Each year, elementary students in North Texas submit thousands of illustrations for the contest. Patrons may view the nine winners in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic Office located inside Cowboys Stadium.
